The General Skilled Migration Program (GSM)
Australian states and territories have now received allocations for their Skilled Migration Program – designed to attract migrants who make a significant contribution to the economy and fill positions where no Australian workers are available.
It is aimed at attracting skilled workers to critical occupations who wish to migrate and assist in the changing needs of businesses.
Each year, the jurisdictions receive quotas from the Australian Government, based on which the states and territories nominate skilled and business migrants for the Skilled Nominated visa Subclass 190 and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 491.
